4-Hydroxycinnamamide is a natural product isolated and purified from the herbs of Berberis pruinosa and a more potent and specific inhibitor of tyrosine kinases in vitro than other six derivatives. Its inhibitory activity is caused by competing with the substrate protein for the tyrosine kinase binding site.
