描述Methacycline hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum semisynthetic antibiotic related to tetracycline but excreted more slowly and maintaining effective blood levels for a more extended period. Methacycline hydrochloride (a tetracycline antibiotic) also protected C. elegans and mammalian cells from statin toxicity. Unlike tetracycline, methacycline was able to retard aging-related decline in motility of even the healthy worms used.
